So glad you're here. I am a jack of many trades, master of very few. I take care of my four amazing hot mess children, coach crossfit, manage a blog (welcome by the way), homeschool one of our 4 kids, and dabble in a thousand other things.
One of the big things i have done and do is take the knowledge i have acquired over the last 15 years and use it to try and help simply life for anyone I can.
I figured out many years ago that the information I gather in my day-to-day life with my four kids - some with disabilities - just isn't easily accessible or readily available to everyone. Of my four children we have run into countless medical and life challenges, and some of the biggest have come with my youngest two daughters both of whom have cerebral palsy. I have served on countless patient advocacy and care boards, am a certified fitness instructor, and have just lived a lot of life in and amongst the special needs and disability community. I have never been content with the answer: "that just won't work."
We believe a little elbow grease and smarts can help lift some of the burdens and expose the joys of life with disabilities.
A positive outlook and clear communication can be the best medicine needed on the hardest of days.
We know that hope for tomorrow and grace for today fuels the spirit to press on in assurance and confidence.
Roughly 12 years ago I found myself thrust into a world I never expected to be in. I had spent a good chunk of my life in and around the disabled community and special needs community, but I never expected to become the mom to not one but two daughters with cerebral palsy.
I wanted to know everything. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I was not willing to accept that only one shoe would work with an AFO or that we couldn't go and do something the way we wanted. So I figured it out. I searched and researched and searched some more. If I couldn't find an answer, I would find a solution – an alternative that gave me the ability to accomplish what our goals were and equip not just our youngest two but all four of our kids to be the best they were capable of.
There are certain realities in this world and I absolutely accept and believe it is important to recognize that, but it doesn't mean that life can’t be sweet and full amidst those tough realities. And from here the Motley Mom life was born: pieces of a thousand conversations, and information I have shared with hundreds of families simplified into one place.
My hope is that our experience can help equip you for all the dance parties and diverse needs your family may have.
